Rockridge Resolutions
The Toastmaster for the last RTM meeting of 2021 was Kellie Hobbs, who chose the theme of “Resolutions.” The tradition of creating goals and promising oneself that they will be accomplished in the coming year can be whatever you make it.
Kellie suggested making the resolutions fun. Her suggestions included “trying every drink at Starbucks” and “picking a friend and telling them the same joke to see how long it takes to annoy them.”
Esther Dsouza shared that she has always known that she could “write her socks off.” but the timing always felt off. For 2022, she’s finally feeling ready to give the discipline, practice, and ritual of writing a decent shot. Esther also sends her special thanks to the club: “Special thanks to RTM toasties (you know who you are) for all your encouragement over private zoom chat over the years!”
Whether your resolutions are fun and whimsical or require the habit of practice and commitment, there is hope to be had in that the year will be another one full of promise and opportunity.
May 2022 bring you what is meant to bring you to create the individual that you are meant to be!
We Celebrate Rain or Shine!
One of the outcomes of our Moments of Truth survey is that our members really miss seeing each other in person!! So we scheduled an in-person holiday party in December. It was a bit of an email flood due to the changes required by person count limits at the restaurants and the pending showers for our original date of Sunday, 12/12.
The festivities ended up occurring on Saturday, 12/11, with a smaller crowd. Like true Toasties, when a guest asked what we did at our meetings, the Table Topics cards came out for a round of impromptu questions. We discovered someone's most impactful book was The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston. We had great conversations about family stories involving genetics and the discovery of new family members. There were also stories of coming to the U.S. and making a life here while having family strewn across the world. It was also fantastic to see some former RTM members!
Rumi Quote
Be happy, oh our well desired love.
The healer of all our illnesses.
Oh, the medicine for our pride & arrogance
Oh, (love) you are our Plato & Galen.
Through love, the earthly body soared to the skies.
Mountains began to dance & became agile.
Oh lover, love inspired Mt. Sinai.
Mt. Sinai became drunken & Moses fell in a faint.
